Why I’m Running?
My name is Dontaye Carter, and I’m running for Mayor of Sandy Springs because I believe that integrity and transparency in our city government matter.
As a journalist, I’ve traveled across the entire United States, and I can say with absolute certainty that there’s nowhere else I’d rather work, live, and raise children. My wife and I have built a life, a family, and our own successful businesses here. We love this community and everything it has to offer, but I want more for the people of Sandy Springs.
Our city is growing. Families are moving in, businesses are thriving, and opportunities are expanding. But let’s be honest. Growth brings challenges. Challenges that require courage. Challenges that demand collaboration. And challenges that deserve real solutions.
I’ve talked to families who are struggling to find an affordable place to live—teachers, first responders, working parents who pour their hearts into this community but can’t afford to stay here. I’ve heard from small business owners who just want a fair shot—not more red tape. And I’ve listened to neighbors who sit in traffic day after day, wondering when their time will matter as much as the bottom line.
These stories—your stories—are why I’m here. They’re why I’m running- again. Because I believe leadership isn’t about power. It’s about people. It’s about ensuring that every voice is heard, every need is addressed, and every door in this city opens wide with opportunity.
As your mayor, I will fight for a Sandy Springs where everyone can thrive. That means:
Making housing attainable for those who serve our community—our teachers, our firefighters, our nurses—so they can live where they work.
Investing in infrastructure that moves us forward, addressing traffic congestion, and building a city ready for the future.
Championing local businesses, cutting through the red tape, and creating a climate where innovation and hard work are rewarded.
Strengthening public safety, giving our first responders the resources they need, and building trust between law enforcement and the community.
Demanding transparency and accountability, because every dollar we spend belongs to you, the people of Sandy Springs.
But this isn’t just my vision. It’s our vision. It’s a vision rooted in the belief that when we come together, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish. Dr. King once said, “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.” And here in Sandy Springs, we’re rowing together.
And as the next Mayor of Sandy Springs, I will do just that — listen to the people and give everyone a voice.
